DONNA VREELAND

Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Donna Vreeland is seasoned and unique like her home town. Moving from New Orleans in 1997, Donna lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and then spent some time traveling. Historic Milton, Delaware became her new home in 2006. She was drawn to the beautiful architecture and small town charm of Milton and the close proximity of great seafood and beaches! Donna has worked in many fields during her life but had a long career as a registered nurse. In 2009, she retired from nursing to pursue her creative passions.

Donna has a make it happen attitude that has prevailed in her creativity all of her life. She learned to crochet and sew by age 8. She made macramé accessories and wall hangings in 1970s; stained glass designs in the 1980s; refurbishing and recreating furniture since 1990 and in 2000s, Donna began designing jewelry. She still loves working in many mediums but is currently concentrating on jewelry designs.

Donna is inspired by nature and the beauty of the outdoors. Her designs reflect an organic subtlety that defines the uniqueness of her work. She works in Sterling Silver and Fine Silver designing quality pieces that are made to last for generations to come.

SEA GLASS

Sea glass is formed when glass is exposed to water and elements of nature. The frosty appearance of the surface of the glass is caused by a corrosive process that occurs. Glass is exposed to water with the proper ph balance etched and etched away by direct contact with abrasive objects.  Certain chemicals used in making the glass caused the color of glass to change when exposed to sun. It can take up to 10 years just to create significant etching eliminate hard edges. It can take 50 years or longer to achieve the smooth frosty surface of pure sea glass. Perfectly formed pieces can be hundreds of years old.

The Sea Glass jewelry designs are categorized based on color and rarity. Sea Glass is classified by color and rarity based on the original bottle that it came from.  Colors that were more prolific are considered common colors while colors that were limited in the bottle industry are considered extremely rare. Certain colors may be more available in certain areas due to the history of surrounding industry. That explains why there may be a few of some colors and many of other colors.
